Patient and Staff Feedback

My name is Scott Port and I am a Sergeant Major in the US Army stationed at the US Embassy in Berlin, Germany.  I arrived here in October 2008 and unfortunately had to be medically evacuated to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center at Landstuhl, Germany for emergency surgery on my neck and was there for 3.5 weeks.  After the operation, I was in a neck brace for six weeks and lost some ability to walk without assistance.  There were days where I felt hopeless and somewhat depressed wondering if the surgery was successful.

My wife Melanie had to come to Germany from Maryland to be my caregiver during my recovery phase.  As soon as we walked into the hospital, it was hard not to notice your beautiful works of art.  I am not sure if you have ever been to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, but it is a very large hospital with endless hallways and people going in every direction.

As part of my physical therapy, I was encouraged to walk as much as I could tolerate.  Melanie and I would walk the hallways each and every night after everyone had gone home just to admire your pictures.  Each night we would look at all of them and see something different each time.  Whether it was the beautiful tulips, the oriental gardens, meadow near the mountains, groups of seashells, boats in the harbor, Swans near the colorful boats, or the Iris pictures, your art took me to a far way place and my pain was gone.  I don't know where the pictures were taken but it was fun trying to guess.

There were many comments by the patients and staff about how beautiful the pictures are and some would playfully argue with each other which one is the best.  Of course we all have our favorites.  Your pictures made my stay at the hospital more enjoyable than I had imagined.  They really brightened my days to see such beauty on the walls and sometimes I would fantasize actually being at the locations where you took the photos.

I just wanted to personally thank you for the great work you are doing.   Always remember you are touching the lives of many people and lifting their spirits with your art everyday.

 Best wishes and warm regards,

 Scott
